Australians are the third biggest group of casualties in the MH17 tragedy this week. Australia's leader, Prime Minister Tony Abbott, is already calling Mr Putin to account before the facts have even been confirmed.

The startling reality is, OECD research already suggests that Mr Abbott's own policies have the potential to kill more Australians.

Up until the horror of this airplane crash filled up all the news and social media, the worldwide press had been ridiculing Abbott's Australia for being the first country to abolish controls on climate change this week.

Abbott's selfishness and opportunism may kill more Australians than terrorism

The OECD has produced these figures on deaths from air pollution in developed countries:

It is startling to note the death rate in Australia jumped 68% while the equivalent figures in the US, UK and Germany are actually falling.

Under Abbott's pro-pollution, greed is good, self-indulgent strike against the scientific facts of climate change, it is hard to imagine that body count coming down by itself. However, as long as all the victims don't die on the same day and in the same street, will anybody light a candle for them or will they just be a statistic?
