News sites have been abuzz with the story that racist tweeter Justine Sacco has lost her job.

For those who think that is harsh, it is worth comparing her fate to that of ABC figure David Nixon who was criticized for a racist introduction to a British cricketer of Indian ethnicity. He was removed from his minor role in the cricket match but appears to remain with the ABC.

After all, in Australia, it is hard to blame people like Nixon: this type of behavior is widespread and it is a reflection of poor leadership from the top down. Our immigration minister has gone as far as suggesting that foreigners in our country should report to police stations like criminals on probation.

Maybe Mr Morrison will feel that Miss Sacco's case is one of genuine injustice and feel obliged to offer her protection under our otherwise broken asylum program?
